I visited Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park lately. In a souvenir kiosk I found book on orchids. I thought they sell the book. Turned out they give the book away. What a luck!

The book was published by Ministry of Environment and Forestry. There are a number of 188 endemic orchids around Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park listed in this book.

Sunday and Monday I traveled from Khon Kaen to Chiang Mai and back to Khon Kaen (2,000 km total and 24 hours travel time). I had to go to the US Consulate office and get a document notorized. Anyway, our tour bus took us high up into different Thai mountain ranges. We passed by many Thai national parks (no time to visit) but the views were breathtaking-- absolutely awesome. There was one area with a town named Keoh Kow (something like that-- pronounced cow-cow I think) and this area is just unbelievable-- awesome and majestic. There is also a fascinating historical background from the Vietnam War era. I am just 2nd-hand telling the story (how accurate it is I don't know). The Chinese tried to invade Thailand on the northeast side of Thailand and were successful establishing some small settlements here. Remnants of these settlements still exist today with Chinese people living there. Hyw 12 runs through this area and is a famous major road with much history to it, especially from the Vietnam War times. I can assume that these parks and huge uninhabited areas filled with green covered mountains have wild orchids growing in abundance.
