Has anyone tried this product yet? Result? TIA

According to the Advertising. Orthene WP 97% has all the benefits of the WP 75% without the strong odor.

Ricardo, it is on the market now. What I really like about it is "without strong odor"(I suspect it will still have some odor, but not like the wp 75).

I still have a small quantity of Orthene remaining from a container I brough several years ago and even this small portion stinks the storage area no matter all efforts at contaiment. A less smelly one is a blessing. Orthene is not easy to find locally, only a few, very few agricultural stores carry it.

Is this supposed to be a 'new' product? I've had 97% WP for years and there is definitely a strong odor.

Mike, it is supposed to be a new product that Pestrong co. is selling(replace the 75%). Are you sure yours is 97% granulated form for TTO? How it works for insects regardless the odor?

Hey, Mike, I think I have mixed up with Acephate 97up Insecticide, which has less odor, lower dust...

I don't think acephate has a distinctive odor at all, which is why they add an odorant, to warn you of it's presence....just like natural gas. Might it be different among brands or lots of a single brand? Sure.

Mine is definitely 97%, I just looked at it. And it definitely has an odor. No idea if the odor is added as Ray said, or not. It seems to work quite well. I mainly use it for plants outside in the spring/summer and not for indoors, though I *have* used it indoors. It's pretty nasty stuff. Organophosphates are used for making nerve gas if I recall correctly. DO NOT mix it with an acid. I believe the result is phosgene gas, which will kill you.

If you never smelled the 75% it would be difficult to judge the difference. However, I can testify that the 75% formula was enough to "gag a maggot". The 97% could still be bad but be far better than the 75%. I only used the Orthene WP 75% once and the smell lingered so long that I decided to not use it again. Just say'n.

Guys, thanks for all the inputs. I've ordered some thinking it might not smell as bad as wp75. I will try it outdoor sometime in the spring. Meanwhile, I will use Merit since I still have plenty of it.

I finally opened the brand new can of Orthene WP 97% and used it outdoor yesterday... The odor wasn't too bad(certainly it did not make me gag). You can smell it but it isn't very strong. I guess the 97% product is less offensive.

For what it's worth, I've been using orthene to control red lily beetles in my outside garden. They are new here and causing a lot of damage to lilies. It was nice to find something that actually works.
