Paphiopedilum Avalon Pearl is delenatii x Avalon Mist. I purchased this particular plant 4 or 5 years ago from a grower who has downsizing. The plant had clearly bloomed before. So I had high hopes it would bloom again for me. This is the first time it has bloomed since I purchased it. I am not sure why it took so much time. Nor I am certain what changed this year to inspire it to bloom. Does anyone else have this hybrid or can provide insight? It grows like crazy. Maybe going forward it will bloom more regularly.

I cannot say anything specific, but sometimes a change in cultural parameters will cause a plant to take some time off and "get a feel" for its new environs before being comfortable enough to bloom

I purchased a few of those from Lehua a few years back, and they seemed to do better if grown really warm..

thanks for the feedback Ray! I hope that it has a feel for the new environment. I like the flowers over all. Reading your comment about the "really warm" growing conditions has me thinking. It was a particularly warm summer. Maybe that has something to do with it.
