My husband knocked my orchid off the mantle and a stem which has around 4-5 flowers has bent badly.

I've only had the plant for 2 weeks, it was a gift. How do I fix this? Should I cut the bent piece off completely or leave it be and hope it recovers?

    Any advice would be appreciated!!

Personally, I'd leave it alone. Those blossoms may fade more quickly now, but you can enjoy them while they last.

A splint may help to hold the spike straight. A chopstick or bamboo stake with some tape or soft ties sometimes keeps the water supply to the flowers open enough to prolong the bloom.
