I have had this plant about 18 months. Last year 2 new growths rotted before maturing and I couldn't see any root growth. I thought I was going to lose it. This year a sound new growth, new roots and a flower. It is still a small plant but I think it will survive now.

That's excellent. I thought about getting one of these but saw another with really dull colors and didn't like it very much. Rethinking it now. Nice pics, especially the second one.

I may have some old stacyi pollen from last year. If you want to try it, let me know and I'll dig around for it.

Hi Kelly, what is the mount that you have it on?

Eric, the mount is what it came on from the seller (Andy's Orchids). I'm sure it is either cedar or cypress. If it is cedar, the most commonly available here in California is incense cedar. Sorry I can't give you a better answer.

Love this plant! I have a good size one about 19 or 20 growths. It's very healthy and put out 4 growths this year. Still haven't bloomed it yet =(. I think my light levels were to low. Just moved it closer to the lights. We will see what happens. Congratulations on blooming yours! Looks wonderful!

I love this species. Do you think it could grow cooler?

Mine gets pretty cool in the winter between 50F and 55F. I haven't bloomed it yet but it looks great and growing well. I'm not sure what Kelly is doing with temperatures. Kelly did a great job blooming! I'm a little jealous lol!

Its native habitat is coastal Brazil where it grows up to 800 meters elevation. Warm, moist, humid and shady.

I am growing mine intermediate-warm, lower than optimum humidity, and brighter than Phalaenopsis light levels. I don't know how forgiving this species is with temperatures. The Baker culture sheet shows the coolest month with an average high/low of 70/58 and the warmest month average at 80/68. My winter matches the culture sheet fairly well but my mid-summer temps are higher. My humidity fluctuates wildly throughout the day.

Thanks for the complements. I don't know if the winter lows will be a limiting factor for blooming this species but your lows are certainly lower than in habit and your winters would be longer. Maybe an issue.

KellyW and Jgrimm1055, thanks! Your comments are really helpful. Seems like this is a very forgiving species that I could grow in my tank (or at least try growing).

Just be sure to put it in a place it dries out if in a tank. These can rot pretty easy.

This is not what I would call a forgiving species.

You deserve the compliments! =) =) I've had mine for some time. I don't think the cooler winter is affecting to much. I could be wrong and it may be the reason for not blooming. It's growing like crazy and looks great! I was growing it in low light. I think that might be the issue with blooming. I read it does well between medium and high light. I will see what happens with the stronger light. If there's still an issue blooming I will give warmer temperatures a try. Once I get home from work I will take a picture to show you. Maybe you can see any signs of something. =) =) =) Thank you for the info Kelly!

I still gonna try growing it. I have a dry, shady spot in my tank where it could possibly grow. :)
