Self introduction

I am Shashidhar sastry from India. I live in southern Indian city of Bengaluru. I am a professional Forester and I had the opportunity of working in different parts of our country and out of which about 28 years I have spent in North Eastern state of Nagaland. This is where I picked up my interest and hobby of orchid growing way back in 1983. Presently I live in Bengaluru after I have taken Voluntary retirement from service. My full time occupation is to be with orchids (which has been my passion) and currently I am also the president of The Orchid Society of Karnataka. I have reasonable collection of 160 + species from NE and Southern parts of India, i have a bias towards species collection and growing (not undermining the wonderful hybrids!!). We try to create awareness about conservation of orchids in nature and also popularise orchid growing as a hobby. We have a membership of 300 + members in the society who are very enthusiastic hobbyists.

 

Good, i had a wonderful career as NE part of India is one of the mega diversity hotspots and even now i go for orchid photography in its natural habitat which is tough but enjoyable one, i will definitely share with you all
