My apologies about the service interruption this morning, folks.

It was brought up to my attention via email that some threads were missing and I was forced to close the forums to investigate this situation further.

Unfortunately, access to the mod/admin panel was abused, resulting in many threads being deleted (including the thread titled "advertisements" in the suggestion forum).

This kind of deliberate disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. The users in question have been suspended.

Also, I have removed the thread titled "I'm with Dale". Please let’s act like adults and respect each other.

Enrique, I'm really sorry to hear about this. Any chance of recovering missing threads from back-ups? But, perhaps it isn't worth the effort.

So. If I start a thread on this forum and decide at a later date that I want to delete said thread, that's not allowed? Respect..yeah.

Ah, I was wondering where the ad thread went, I'm glad to hear it wasn't deleted by someone in an official capacity! I thought it was an interesting if heated discussion... What else got trashed?

Enrique, I'd like to caution you to tread lightly. You make it sound like someone ran amok and deleted things arbitrarily. Chris, the administrator in question, deleted content (Dale's) upon Dale's request. And then Chris deleted some of his own content. It was my understanding that threads started by each of us can be deleted if we decide we don't want our content to be included any longer. Especially copyrighted material.

I feel you had plenty of warning that you were seriously aggravating some of us that have been around since day one. You didn't even observe long enough to get a feel of what the forum and its participants were really like before you started making changes. Dale and Chris decided they no longer wished to participate. Knowing both of these guys personally, I am confident they won't let this go quietly if you restore content against their wishes.

It's your forum now, and you can do whatever you feel like doing. But we have lost a TON of value with the loss of these two experienced growers. The experienced growers are what makes (made?) this forum exceptional and different from every other forum out there.

We allow edits until a certain period of time, after that, posts can't be deleted. We do this to maintain the integrity of the site's thread content.

I would like to point out that the same rules applied before. I had a post that I started and wanted to delete because someone had made comments on it that I didn't want my name associated with. Jon told me he would do it that one time, but that was up to him and this was an exception. So not much has changed after all.

Alexis, while I have a lot of respect for Dale and Chris and the rest of this great group of people, I feel like the 'new guy suspicion' thing might be a little out of hand. Aside from some minor cosmetic tweaks, the only real change I've seen Enrique make so far is the addition of ads. While I don't love this either, I also don't find it obtrusive or even very noticeable. It's certainly FAR more restrained than what you see on some other orchid forums.

If Dale and Chris and whoever else want to quit, that's certainly their right. If they want to remove their own content, well, sucks (REALLY sucks!) for the rest of us but also their right. Removal of entire threads of multiple users' content isn't cool, though, since as a matter of fact Dale and Chris don't own the content I or anyone else posted to threads that they may have started.

I guess I'm just having a hard time seeing a pattern of 'serious aggravation' here. Obviously Dale's red line was the inclusion of ads, but what else did he or anyone else have to gripe about? I'm really sorry to see those guys go but they went by choice, not because they were forced out in any way. You all feel free to disagree with me, of course...

Hi Nat! I guess I meant the addition of ads as the "serious aggravation." This idea has been bantered around since the forum was first started, and every time it came up we users decided we'd rather support the forum financially than have ads included. Dale and Chris both said they were out if ads became permanent. Enrique didn't care, so they left just as they said they would.

Additionally, I simply wanted to clarify that somebody with admin permissions wasn't deleting other users' content simply to be vindictive. I don't like the loss of their contributions either, but I do feel it's their right to remove threads they started, especially if there is proprietary content like photographs, advice, or instructions.
