One of my friends on facebook has two Cattleya orchids both with severe root rot one which has no roots at all and another has one somewhat healthy root. Obviously the one with a single healthy root has a higher chance of survival but has anyone managed to bring one back from the brink with no roots at all? I've never dealt with Cattleya orchids so I cant say im familiar with their care.

I would try putting in a zip lock or other heavy plastic bag. Cut a few drain holes in the bottom of the bag. Do not close the bag. I set it in a pot to hold it upright with the top open and put it under the bench. It gets watered when the bench gets watered and usually will send up a new growth if you are patient. Cut the bad roots off of the plant before bagging it.
