Good Morning, I got ambitious and bought this Dendrobium Regina seedling. It came bareroot and I potted in a seedling mix of fine bark/lava rock & a tiny bit of sphagnum moss on top. It has only been in the mix 5 days and now the leaves are all yellowing from the base/tip and the roots (which were initially firm) are now getting soft. Some of the leaves are getting these spots which appear sunken. Is this a fungal problem? (I barely water it; allowing for drying in between.) Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't grow this kind of Dendrobium, but I would ask if the plant came with the tear and folded leaf? You're in California (and thanks for putting your location with your name!) so I wonder if it came from an area of cold weather and got some damage in transit. Hopefully some of our members may have some input.

Hi Marni, Thanks for input. The seedling did come with the tear and folded leaf. It came from Lancaster, CA. The seedling has yellowed even more since my initial posting; not a good sign. (I got the seedling on the 20th and noticed the problem 5 days later.) It is separated from my other orchids in case of more serious/nefarious problems.

Have you talked to the vendor?

Yes, I e-mailed the eBay seller. They are willing to replace the seedling if it does not live. I'd still like to know what is happening to the seedling though....
