This is a regular bloomer, this time with 14, 3.75-inch fragrant flowers and a bud yet to open, the highest single-spike flower count yet for me. A second spike has just emerged from the basket and should bloom in about 4-6 weeks, which is a plus as the flowers last only 4-5 days. Not as strongly fragrant as my other stanhopeas, this one has no identity. I have tried for several years to get an ID for it to no avail; connata is the closest to it but not a precise match either; nor are any of the other suggested species.

One side shot and one from below.

I know a stanhopea when I see it, but not much more. I have been told that detailed photos of the lip are vital for an ID. If you can find some one with Rudolph Jenny's new book on Stanhopea that would certainly help. Nice images.

Nicely done! I really like your below looking up shot, that's not a view often shown of Stanhopeas. Interesting that most of the dark markings, so visually striking in the first photo, seem to disappear when viewed from below.

    Stanhopea wardii.
The combination of a the orange corpus with a transluscent white column, large and dark "eye", short and thick hypochile, a strongly angulate hypochile-mesochile alignment, thick mesochile horns, and large number of flowers per inflorescence are indicative of this species.

This is a nicely clear colored and floriferous variant. Most S. wardii have numerous spots and marks on the inside of the petals and sepals.
