I'm not big on Stanhopea species, but this was a rescue plant. It bloomed nicely and smelled great, I may have to keep it. IOSPE says it comes from the Pacific slopes and needs a dry rest. It didn't get one, but bloomed anyway. So far, the plant is a modest size.

Nice, Marni. I recently got one of these (my first Stan.) from Oak Hill Gardens, but the spike broke off during shipping.

Is yours in bark? From what I've read, they need a lot of moisture when growing.

Dave, mine is in a 6" basket in the fine bark mix I use for most plants. It is hanging above a bench with potted plants so gets watered on their schedule which is not nearly as often as for the mounted plants (daily). I know that it approaches dryness between waterings. I wasn't sure a spike could get through the bark mix, but it went straight down and seemed fine. I have some others acquired at the same time that are in moss, but I don't have any results on that.
