I don't grow a lot of stanhopeas but this one was a rescue that bloomed out to be something different. I have a tentative ID from Rudolph Jenny. It is a small plant which suits my taste very well.

Very interesting shape. Are the lateral sepals small or are the blooms not yet fully open? How small is small (plant)?

The laterals are not small, they just don't reflex the way many do. The plant is about 8 or 9" tall at this point. It may get larger, but I don't think it gets as big as most.

Kelly, I'm not sure if this helps, but the lateral sepals do show here. I was trying to get the lip, so the column has been removed. It is the only image I have with much of a frontal view.

Thanks Marni. That helps. I was just having trouble visualizing it with the first photo. That sounds like a manageable sized plant.

Yes, it is, quite nice. One of the things that Rudolph Jenny wants to do is run it through a machine to analyze the scent as an aid in identification.

I'm making a huge list of fragrant orchids (more on this in some weeks, I've already enrolled the french speaking forums and I want a usable list before starting to annoy you with this, but I saw a name not on the list and… ^^ So what it's like?

I would love to be able to tell you, but my memory doesn't hold that kind of information without a lot of work. I may have written it on the label, but I sprayed the greenhouses the other day and have to wait to go it to check it.

I'll be patient as a good little boy.

(for the list it's a matter of weeks, the time to remove synonyms… sigh)

Marni, this plant is quite uncommon ...
Has it, one year after you started this post, flowered again ?
Has Dr. Jenny been able to analyse the fragrance ?

Yes, it is growing well and has flowered. I've pickled flowers for Rudolph. I've been really busy so haven't sent them yet. I did self the plant. Any idea how long a capsule might take?

... how long a capsule might take ...

About 3 months, if given quality fertiliser 10-50-10 together
with 'Cattleya light' and min. temperature of 16°C.

Could you please mail the pickled lip by this week ?
