Stanhopea nigroviolacea/tigrina

    Enormous flowers. This year only one 6.5" flower in these 95º+ F days and 73º+F nights, but I assure you the fragrance still fills the greenhouse, and now the house as I have brought it in. I don't know if everyone realizes it, but you seldom see a stanhopea flower from the front like you do a catt or paph. You normally only see them, or pics of them, from the side. They can be difficult to capture head-on as they face the ground. Here is one solution, with me (not pictured) lying on the steps looking up. If, as in the final pic of my awarded Stan.anfracta, the leaves/basket are sufficient to block out all or nearly all of the light, it can be done without the 'cover' above - though a flash was necessary, but that was not the case today.
