Stanhopea sp.

    This spike had had 5 blooms, but one bud was damaged by university staff, so we're down to four. You can see there's another spike on the way.

    Strong scent—somewhere between vapo-rub flavored cotton candy and pine + mint-vanilla latté. Or at least those were the two best descriptions I could come up with.

    If anyone can advise me on whether this is S. oculata or S. inodora (the spotted form), I'd greatly appreciate it!

    It's such a distinctively airy bloom, I thought it would be nice to take a picture against the open sky.

    Here we're looking at the blooms directly from below. I wanted to get a view of these four dots—very distinctive, but not very noticeable from other angles. And it's an interesting view since, from here, Stanhopea actually look a bit like other orchids!
