Telipogon sp.

    I have no real good key for Telipogon so have been scouring the internet. This was supposed to be thomasii, but seems to be clearly not. I also looked up hutchinsonii and flower color and shape looks similar to the photo on IOPSE, but lacking the two “horns” in the reproductive structure. Interestingly the photo on IOPSE does not seem to fit the drawing by Dodson & Bennett for hutchinsonii (Swiss Orchid Foundation database). Any thoughts?

    Nice, I looked at IOSPE, and I didn't see anything similar, neither. The photo of T. hutchisonii in IOSPE definitely doesn't match with the illustration, so the photo in IOSPE must be incorrect. Orchids: Species of Peru by Zelenko and Bermúdez also put the wrong photo (similar to IOSPE) as T. hutchisonii.

    Update: I have looked up quite a few suggestions, both from this forum and from people who have emailed, but I just haven’t seen anything real close when it comes to the “business end” of the flower (term borrowed from Naoki) denoting the amazing column and pollinia. Ecuaflora-A suggested T. fritillum, but not sure that fits either.

    Chuck, this looks like Telipogon hutchinsonii to me. I just got a few plants and they came labeled Telipogon hutchinsonii and look like this. I'll get pics soon.
