I'm in the planning stage for a terrarium so I can bring a few of my plants back to school with me. I'd like to use computer fans as my air circulation but I cannot find a tutorial on how to modify these so I can just plug them in. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

You'd be better off going to Radio Shack, where they sell 110V versions of the same fans.

You can also get one of these fan controllers, which lets you plug the fans in directly without any wiring or soldering at all. The controller lets you control speed as well. All you need is the power cord and possibly a splitter so you can have more than 4 fans (the max voltage spins them too fast anyway). Good luck let us know how it goes

He he thanks Jacob! ;) Goods, I too recommend doing what Calvin is saying.... I use simple adjustable voltage regulator (120 VAC to 12 VDC power supply = cheap $10-15), I am guessing Radio Shack would have something? Mine has a simple dial you can choose from 3.5 to 12 volts incrementally. All you do is to cut the plug meant to plug into the computer off the fans cord and wire it up directly to the power supply. I just upgraded the fans in my vivarium to these, "Scythe Gentle Typhoon" (120 mm, 1850 rpm: 0.083 A, 28 dBA, 98 m³/h) and they are really amazing and I can whole heartedly recommend them (although you can choose a less powerful model than I did, my viv is 160 cm tall). They push A LOT of air and are nearly silent.
