I built this greenhouse in 2000 and it used to be filled with benches and I mainly grew odd epiphytic cactus, ferns and aroids. I cleaned it out 2 years ago and made a walkway and my collection grew to include many Hoya, Dischidia, Begonia and Gesneriads. This past summer I cleaned it up once again put new rock on the walkway and set aside a corner to grow orchids in. The temerature is a minimum of 55F in winter and a max if 90F in the summer with many micro-climates. I hope to begin placing various orchids into the planting as I learn more. But, here is how it looks today.

Wow, Harry, what an incredible collection you have! I love these types of specialty plants, and have worked many into my own shadehouse. I enjoyed your pictures immensely, and will look forward to browsing around your website.

Than ks for the comments. The greenhouse is 21'x28' and 14' at the peak.

Jon, I purposely reduced my collection to give it an airier feel in the winter. I probably had 50-60 more hanging pots last year but I sold and gave away allot of plants this past year. I'm strategically placing plants in there this year to maintain the feel. I can actually sit in it this year.:)

I have a smaller house that most of my orchid collection is in. It measure 12'x16' and the temperature ranges from a 50-55F minimum in the winter to a 80F max in the summer. It's heavily shaded in the summer by trees. Most of my Pleurothallids and Bulbos are in it but I suspect I will move some of the Bulbos to the bigger house during the coldest part of the winter. I'm learning where things should go all the time.

It's about 30 miles southeast of Charlotte NC. If you raid the house you'll have to jump the fence so bring the appropriate gear.

    Thanks MJ!

There's one in the garage which shares a common wall. But, I can't seem to keep it full of beer. :bang:

Could be, I thought I felt a warm breeze last night like someone came up from Florida. I'll fix that. I plan on drinking it all today so there won't be any tonight.

I understand. I have a donation jar hanging off the tap on my kegerator and someone took that, too.
