Thanks for the link! Right now I have a lot of planifolia and a couple of tahitensis...that's about it. Hopefully that will change. :D

Why the interest in the odorata? It did look interesting. It looks like tahitiensis is a cross of the planifolia and odorata according to the articles. HAve you gotten any to bloom yet? I haven't. I want to make vanilla. Is that what you want to do? I may order one of the ororata's.

I am interested in the odorata due to its possible connection to tahitensis. Eventually, I'd like to try and cross the odorata with the planifolia to compare. Producing some beans are a part of the plan too...:)

I only have some very young tahitensis vines, but when they're of a size that I can take some cuttings, I'll let you know.

Let me know if you're able to order the odorata...when I looked at the website linked above, I noticed that they are currently out of them. Oh well...

I think that's a cool idea. Although with genetic crossings you never know what you're going to get. I have 6-7 vanilla planifolias in the hopes of making vanilla this summer. If it works i'll document the process on this site. i'm also going to try and get an odorata. i checked cites and it didn't pop up.

How old are your vines? They must be pretty long if you're expecting flowers this summer...awesome! Please document your progress.

My planifolia vines are about 7 feet right now, so it will be another couple of years before I can get some flowers/beans.

I've got several species of vanilla, I'd also be interested in trades. *G*

Anyone know who got the vanilla group from Hoosier? They had a couple of neat ones that I'd love, but not for the entire group. Also some Microcoelia that I'd love to have seen.

    Jim,

Think I talked to you on ebay before. I lived in Richmond,VA then. I was waiting to buy from Hoosier's until I got this gh set up. I was sad to see they went out of business. I contacted the owner. That lot went for $700-800(found it on yahoo). I asked the owner of Hoosier's(indirectly) who bought the lot by asking him if he new who sold vanilla imperialis or vanilla polyepsis(one of which was on the list). He said no so it must have been a private buyer. We should compare lists. If I remeber right you probably have most of what I have already. Check out my vanilla pics at "My New Greenhouse". I hope to bloom some this year. Have you bloomed any? I also want to produce vanilla. How about some pics?

I think it was V. roscheri and maybe V. phalaenopsis?, plus Microcoelia gilpinae and others. Maybe M. corallina??

Right now I've got Vanilla pompona, planifolia, planifolia albomarginata, tahitiensis, hartii, madagascarensis, aphylla, claviculata, africana, and another one. LOL.

The chat room is toward the bottom of the page. There is an area called "chat" click on it and it will take you into the room.

Hope you find it ok. :)

New to orchids forum. And I also collect vanilla. Was wondering what sources were out there for vanilla. Or what members have they might be willing to trade or sell clips of?
    Thanks

I know this forum post is really old, but if any of you are still around and following it, I'd be most grateful if someone could help me find some Vanilla Tahitensis and ordorata. I've now contacted dozens of vendors and continue to seek out more but to no avail. Would anyone be willing to sell one or some of their plants or share some rooted cuttings? I'm asking y'all as a last resort b/c I can't seem to find any anywhere.
