The leaves of this NDL have a discoloration that makes them look awful, am not sure what it is. It does not rub off, new leaves start out OK but eventually become discolored. It does not spread to other orchids. Ho P4050225.JPG w can I get rid of it?

You might want to test it for virus.

Hi Marni, what type of virus would you suspect? The new growth in the picture looks very clean. Of course I'm more used to virus that are prominent in the new growth (yellow bean on Masdevallia ☹️).

The most common would be Odontoglossum Ring Spot or Cymbidium Mosaic Virus. These show their symptoms in the older leaves. The new growths are clean and they show the syptoms as they age. Agdia has a test for these two. The symptoms are the opposite of Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus.

Agdia sells test strips for CYMV and ORSV here.
You can also send samples to Critter Creek.

Until you get it tested, you might want to keep it segregated. Also be sure that you are using sterilized cutting tools on all of your orchids. Ray recently posted the link for this site and it is worth downloading. It may be something less devastating than virus. Orchid Pests, Orchid Diseases

    I give up!

    What does NDL mean?

Some acronym the kids are now using? A genus?

The orchid societies in the Deleware Valley, PA use it to define a plant without an identification of any kind. It is stands for NO DARN LABEL or NO DAMM LABEL if you prefer. I didn't know it was not universally used.
