It seems this feature isn't working.

I haven't changed my browser, or deleted cookies, but frequently when I come back to OI, all my previously read threads appear to be unread.

    Is it just me?

Same here. It's not a big deal, but it's still irritating. Seemed to happen about the time we had our first color experiment.

I'm not having that issue at all.

I can't seem to replicate the problem on my end. Everything is working as expected for me.

As an alternative, you can try the "Mark Forums Read" feature under "Forum Actions" to mark all the threads and posts as read for your session.

For the record, our "color experiments" did not affect in any way the "What's new" functionality.

Sorry, Enrique, I don't mean to be a PITA. But having to mark all forums as read every time I visit is not a solution. I tried it upon your suggestion, and the next time I visited, I was right back where I started.

I think Dale was being playful as opposed to literal, but this problem did arise when you started making changes. I'm running IE on Windows7, FWIW; not some obscure browser.

What's the difference between 'what's new' and 'new posts'? I always use the latter and haven't had problems with Firefox and IE on Win 7.

I don't know if there's any difference. "New Posts" doesn't update for me, either.

I have a similar problem on slippertalk but only with IE, Firefox works fine. Sounds like something weird going on with cookies or browser cache, though the fact that it cropped up for some people here only recently does suggest that at least part of it is server-side...

    Hi Alexis,

The "What's new" feature is based on your cookies and inactivity. Once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (15 minutes) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

Please restart your computer and try again. If you are still having issues try clearing your browser's cache, and deleting your cookies.

Is anyone else still having issues? Marni? Dale?

I don't think there is a difference since both links are pointing to the same URL.

Thanks for trying to help, Enrique. But sorry, rebooting and clearing cookies didn't work. I'm not willing to clear my browser history, there's some important stuff there. ;-)

To clarify, when I read multiple threads and go back to "what's new" in the same session, those threads are marked as read. It's when I close out of OI, and go back (5 minutes or 5 hours later) that everything appears to be unread.

Since nobody else is stepping forward with a similar problem now, I'll consider this my problem and learn to live with it.

That's exactly what's happening to me, Alexis. I cleared cookies, too, and it didn't make a difference. I'm using Firefox.

If I click on the "What's New" button I get only things that are very recent (second image). If I click on the bookmarked link I have used for a long time I get the whole days stuff. (first image)

I'm using Firefox on a Mac and have had problems with "Didn't I read that" issue. But I just logged out and then logged back in again and it didn't happen. For a while I was getting logged off every time I looked at any page other than OI, but now I am not.

Everything seems to be working fine for me, now. Thanks, Enrique.
