Here is my new shade house I showed a few weeks ago ready for our winter temps. I wrapped it in greenhouse film, I've got two remote thermometers (I'm paranoid), and a heater. I only have to heat at night because the sunlight keeps it warm during the day. I vent it on sunny days so it doesn't get too warm in there.
Once it warms up again I open up the sides!

    That's great Piggy!
Let us know how it works.
You might need to seal up the side seams to keep enough heat in.

Each edge is tucked in a U channel with a spring. I kept them independent so I could open the sides independently. So far this week it's worked great

saving grace this AM, are the clouds streaming in from the SW.
now if the clouds disperse for tonite temps will plummet.

I'm in the same cold boat, Piggie. 35 here this AM, but I was able to keep 51 in the shadehouse. 5 more nights of this garbage...

Last night was 20F as it has been for 4 days now. Never really gets above freezing during the day. Greenhouses are lucky to stay about 46-50F at night and about 60F during the day. We have many more days to go of this also. Boy I dread seeing my propane and electric bill this month!

because i work in greenhouses, i've spent a lot of time thinking about this concept and i've come up with name for the phenomenon of it being warmer in the greenhouse than it is outside that i'm hoping will catch on.
i've been calling it "the greenhouse effect"
