Yellow Phalaenopsis leaf

    I would like to ask if this is a sickness on the leaf (on the pictures), or this is normal as the leaves grow old. It looks like this since some months, but only one leaf. DSC05009.JPG DSC05010.JPG

    Sometimes the older leaves get a little ratty looking. If the plant looks otherwise healthy I wouldn't worry too much. I would like so hear some other more experienced opinions on the matter though. Marni?

    The texture of the leaf doesn't look like normal aging to me. Check on the under side of the leaf for mites. Use a damp cotton swab or a moistened tissue and wipe the under side of the leaf. If you see some red to brown staining on the swab then you have mites. It would be helpful to see a photo of the whole plant.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of mites, and probably with associated fungus. (Brevipalpus in da house!) So miticide and fungicide (2-3 days later) on the menu.

    In case, if the leaf goes nastier and nastier, just cut it, it'll die in the end anyway. (Cinnamon powder on the cut please)

    Yep I agree I had a phal with mites and it looked like that...yes just like kellyw said wipe the leaves and you should see little red spots if it is mites...if you have other orchids make sure to seperate it from the others so they don't spread to others...When I treated mine I remember reading to wipe the leaves with a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and it will kill them you have to be thorough though or they will survive.     Thanks. It is probably mites. When I wipe the bottom of the leafs there are some brown spots on the white tissue. Additionally the problem extended to two other orchids. So it is obviously something somewhat dangerously spreading. I put some more photos up here.
