I bought a piece of this as Zootrophion serpentinum several months ago. Now that it's bloomed, it's pretty obvious it's hirtzii. Still, not disappointed.

The flower is close to an inch long, and like other Zootrophions, never opens fully because the tips of the sepals stay joined. If it opened fully it would be quite large relative to plant size. It has rather pointed, maybe 1/2" long striped petals inside, quite similar in appearance to those of Bulbophyllum affine. The lip is hinged and mobile, also like that of a Bulbophyllum. Of course all this is hidden away, and I only saw it when I cut the flower open once it was starting to fade. It lasted about a week.

Bright shade, drying a little between waterings, intermediate temps.
