This is the first flowering of this plant for me. There were 7 buds on this spike before I broke one off. There are a total of 5 spikes developing. No fragrance that I could detect. Love the colors.

I am growing this in a net pot with a little sphagnum around the original root zone and the rest of the pot filled with coconut fiber. Intermediate to warm temps and in cattleya light. This is one of the few Zygopetalums that is considered an epiphyte. It has been a fast grower for me.

I have seedlings of Z. triste that I am looking forward to blooming within 1-2 years.

When more flowers are open I will take a plant photo and update this post.

Jai, this came from Andy's last October. I don't remember if it was on his web site then or if I called about it. However, it is not showing on his site now.

This species puts out a long rhizome between the pseudobulbs. In a few years it may get unwieldy.

I put a tree fern totem in my pot and that kept it busy for quite a few years before it started going out of bounds.
